What is Near-sightedness (Myopia) ?

The near-sighted person's eye is too long. The beams of light are focused in front of the retina. At the retina itself only an blurry - out of focus - image is created. Near-sightedness can be corrected by the means of glasses, contact lenses or surgery (including laser treatment). Glasses, contact lenses or laser treatment reduce the refraction of the eye by a certain dioptre value as e.g. -2.
